Recognizing Industry Excellence: ACPA Awards 2025
The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) has announced its 2025 award winners, shining a light on exceptional figures and organizations in the concrete industry. Recognized for their service, leadership, and innovation were Gerald Voight, Lori Tiefenthaler, Gary Mitchell, Dan Labo, and Rob Kish. Additionally, Atlanta Airport and the Indianapolis Authority received kudos for their outstanding sustainability practices.
Lifetime Achievement: Gerald Voigt
The prestigious Hartmann-Hirschman-Egan Award went to Gerald "Jerry" Voigt, the retired president and CEO of ACPA. Voigt is celebrated for his 33 years of dedication to the association, which included 16 years as a leader. His extensive work has included authoring over 35 technical publications and presenting more than 400 lectures that have significantly influenced the field. As Don Weaver, president of Weaver-Bailey Contractors, remarked, Voigt's commitment to education has paved the way for ongoing support of concrete as a long-life pavement solution.
Trailblazing Women in Concrete: Lori Tiefenthaler
Lori Tiefenthaler, recognized with the Harold Halm Presidential Award, has made a remarkable impact on the concrete pavement industry. As the first woman to chair ACPA in 2017, her efforts in promoting concrete have been unmatched. Laura O'Neill Kaumo, ACPA president and CEO, highlighted how Tiefenthaler’s advocacy has elevated awareness of the benefits of concrete pavements nationwide.
Technical Innovations: Gary Mitchell
Gary Mitchell, retiring chief engineer at ACPA, received the Marlin J Knutson Award for Technical Achievement. His role over the past 45 years has driven advancements in concrete pavement design that have influenced FAA standards across the United States. This recognition underscores the importance of technical expertise in evolving industry standards.
Emerging Leader: Rob Kish
Lastly, ACPA introduced the Emerging Leader Award, with Rob Kish of Milestone Contractors being its first recipient. Kish represents the new generation of leaders within the concrete industry, poised to further drive innovation and sustainability in pavement solutions.
